Undergraduate Advising

Students pursuing a Biological Sciences major who have not officially declared their concentration or who are wishing to declare a minor in Biological Sciences will meet with the Coordinator for Academic Advising for Biological Sciences, Ross Johnson. Ross can be found in the Natural Sciences Advising Office, located in Walters Academic Building, Room M303 or by emailing him at rjohn108@utk.edu. To schedule an appointment with Ross, log into your MyUTK account and click on the “Navigate” link found under the academic resources section of your home page. “Once in the “Navigate” system, click the “Appointments for Advising and Other Academic Help” button and follow the prompts from there.

On the day of your scheduled appointment, please arrive at the Walters Academic Building, Room M303 5-10 minutes early. If you are late for this appointment, you will have to reschedule. If you are unable to attend this appointment, please log back into the Navigate system to cancel and reschedule your appointment.

Form for declaring a Biology major or minor

uTrack students will officially declare the concentration for their Biological Sciences major early in their 4th tracking term, if the following criteria are met:

  1. On-track for tracking term 3
  2. Not on academic probation
  3. MyUTK profile lists Biological Sciences as the major

Students who have met this criteria and wish to declare their Biology concentration will be assigned to a faculty advisor in the department of the chosen concentration.

To officially declare a concentration in the Biological Sciences major, CHEM 120CHEM 130 and BIOL 130 or 150 must be completed with a minimum grade of C. Declaration of a Biological Sciences concentration should occur as soon as the student decides on this course of study and has met the progression requirements, but no later than three semesters before the expected graduation date in order to ensure that requirements can be met in a timely manner.

To officially declare a Biological Sciences concentration, CHEM 120CHEM 130 and BIOL 150 must be completed with a minimum grade of C. Students wishing to declare a concentration in the Biological Sciences will be assigned a faculty advisor in on of the Biology departments.
